Although the hotel has a discrete and elegant façade of a seventeenth century grand house, the guests will be surprised by the matisse blue of the walls which greet you on entering and the stone staircase which takes you up to a terrace which is surrounded by exuberant greenery.

The peace is absolute, which is ideal for reading a good book, having a pot of tea or a glass of wine, relaxing and dreaming in beautiful teak chairs while breathing in the aromas of a different Lisbon.

The hotel is located in the Rua das Janelas Verdes, in the aristocratic district of lapa, next to the Museum of Ancient Art and 10 km from the airport. It is a 5-minute walk to train station Cais do Sodré and metro.

The hotel has 32 rooms, some with a view over the river and the roofs of Lisbon. 8 rooms are decorated in a classical style and 24 rooms are of modern design. Each room is decorated in a different way. The rooms are decorated in pure lines, recreating the elements of 17th century architecture.

The cuisine has a Portuguese flavour and there is an excellent wine list. Meals are served either in the dining room, or in the garden.

Lunch is served until 15.30 and dinner until 22.00.

York House is located in the heart of Lisbon's most elegant suburb, the Embassy district, close to the city's best shopping centre.
