Description
Built in 1913 and bought in 1936 by the father of the current owner, in 2000 the Victoria Palace Hotel was completely redesigned to meet the changing demands of our times, without sacrificing its inherent traditions.
Although the number of rooms was reduced from 110 to 62, the level of comfort improved and modern technology installed, the hotel has nevertheless retained its large public areas with their turn-of-the-century style that provides a distinctive ambiance. The refurbished rooms are light and spacious, the walls hung with stretched fabric and styled with Louis XVI furniture.
The owner has personally overseen all the interior design and this is reflected in the carefully chosen colours that enable the wealth of paintings to sit happily in their surroundings. Among its eminent visitors have been the Irish writer James Joyce and the Italian painter Giorgio De Chirico. The comfort of guests being uppermost, the service is attentive but unobtrusive.
The clientele
Untouched by the whims of fashion and gaudy excess, the hotel attracts a wide variety of international guests from the business executive to the tourist. Its delightfully large rooms, its convenient position and its attention to the finer things in life are highly rated by its clientele.
