Description
Mayfair's historic Brown's Hotel, which originally opened in 1837, reopened in December 2005 following a 19-million dollar renovation overseen by Sir Rocco Forte's sister, Olga Polizzi.
Situated in the heart of London on Albemarle Street, the hotel is close to all the major attractions, such as the Royal Academy, the open spaces of Green Park and St James's Park, Buckingham Palace, the fabulous shops of Bond Street and thriving West End theatre scene. It is also ideal for those visiting London on business, as it is only a short taxi ride from the City, Canary Wharf and London's central business district.
Brown's has hosted many famous names and events: Alexander Graham Bell made the UK's first telephone call from the hotel in 1876, it was the first hotel to have a lift installed; Rudyard Kipling wrote 'The Jungle Book' in this hotel and Agatha Christie, a regular visitor, based her book At Bertram's Hotel on Brown's. Theodore Roosevelt and Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt all spent time at the hotel, as did Queen Victoria and other members of European royalty.
Composed of 8 Georgian town houses, all 117 bedrooms (including 19 magnificent suites) have been individually designed to reflect a refined English charm with a modern flair. A variety of soft color schemes and light fabrics including natural lines and silks have been used.
Books, original English paintings and antiques are featured in each room, standing side by side with modern essentials such as flat-screen televisions with interactive videos and hundreds of CD's on demand and broadband internet connection.
The average size of the suites is 95 square metres with large bathrooms offering luxurious bush-hammered limestone walls, mosaic-tiled floors, double showers and wall-mounted flat-screen televisions with water-proof remote controls.
Brown's is totally child-friendly with a dedicated five star kids' programme, specifically designed for children of all ages to ensure that they enjoy every aspect of their own "
