Description
Situated 350 meters above the sea, perched on a cliff, Ravello commands the ultimate panorama over the Amalfi Coast, a magical location that the French poet, André Gide, evocatively described as "nearer to the sky than to the shore".
Down in the centre of Ravello, there is plenty more cultural sight-seeing, and not to be missed is the intricate 11th Century Cathedral.
Since the early 50's, Ravello has hosted the celebrated Wagnerian Music Festival from June to September in the grounds of the Villa Rufolo, to commemorate the composer's love for Ravello and the inspiration that he derived from the Villa Rufolo for the second act of Parsifal. Villa Rufolo is a magnificent medieval villa surrounded by extensive gardens, the exotic oriental plants and fountains frame an excellent view over the jagged peaks and the distant Maiori Bay.
Since the end of the 19th century, Hotel Caruso has captivated travelers with its grace and charm. Its stunning location, breathtaking views, spectacular frescoes, vaulted terrace and magnificent rooms and suites are the perfect setting to create an enchanting environment for an unforgettable holiday. Enrico Caruso, Margot Fonteyn, Humphrey Bogart and Jackie Kennedy were just a few of the illustrious guests who have signed the hotel’s Golden Book.
