Grand Hotel Philadelphia

The Grand Hotel Philadelphia opened its doors in May 2005 and is located in the Rotterdam shipping-quarter (Scheepvaartkwartier).

Our hotel was created after the thorough renovation of 3 classic buildings. It offers 20 large rooms, a Grand Cafe Restaurant, 2 private meeting rooms and its own Philly's bakery.

The Grand Hotel Philadelphia is not an ordinary hotel! The hotel is a training project for mentally disabled young people, who are gaining experience in various departments of the hotel.
"Not just another hotel."

The Grand Hotel Philadelphia is the unique initiative of the Philadelphia Care Foundation (Stichting Philadelphia Zorg), which is a national network-based organisation providing advice and support to people who need care, regardless of cause, disability or age, in order for them to live their lives as independently as possible.

Under the guidance of a team of professionals from the catering industry, young persons with a minor mental disability can take part in a learning and working project in our hotel. They work in the kitchen, the Grand Café, the bakery, the laundry room and housekeeping.

The goal of this project is so that young persons can acquire certificates with relevant labour market value, enabling them to get a job in the regular job market. A job coach of Philadelphia supports the youngsters in the project and helps them find an appropriate job.

The Grand Hotel Philadelphia offers 20 very spacious guest rooms, which are available in 3 categories: standard, superior and deluxe. All are non-smoking rooms.

All of our rooms are equipped with a double bed, a bath and a separate shower, and all other facilities that you might expect of a 4-star hotel. Due to the unique architectural style of the building, no 2 rooms are the same!

Some rooms have access to our roof terrace and / or have their own balcony.

All rooms are equipped with internet access and a safety deposit box. It is also possible to order a newspaper for the mornings during check-in.

The Grand Hotel Philadelphia has 2 classic-style rooms, which can be booked exclusively for dinners, lunches or closed meetings.

The maximum capacity is 12 people.

The Grand Café-Restaurant Philadelphia is a culinary establishment where you are welcome as of 07:00 for a nice breakfast.

The cafe-restaurant is open from 07:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday. For lunch, you can enjoy a meal salad, a ciabatta or chicken sate dish, as well as a 'Toast Philadelphia'. On nice summer days you can sit on our cosy garden terrace. In the evenings and weekends the Grand Café can also be exclusively reserved for a larger party for your dinner, (informal) reception or festivity.

In short, the Grand Café-Restaurant Philadelphia is a versatile and informal meeting place for your business appointments as well as private meetings in a relaxed atmosphere. You can sit at a table, at the long Bar or in the Lounge in one of the black leather Chesterfields.

Hospitality and quality have the highest priority in our hotel.

The Grand Hotel Philadelphia is set in the historic shipping-quarter (Scheepvaartkwartier) in the centre of Rotterdam, a few minutes away from the Meuse and the famous Erasmus bridge.

The hotel is an outstanding operating base for discovering Rotterdam.

This modern city has a lot to offer: besides the world renowned ports, it also has many things to offer in the field of architecture, art, culture and sports.

Many museums can be found within walking distance of the hotel: the World Museum Rotterdam with the children's museum De Reiskoffer, the Maritime Museum, Boymans van Beuningen, the Kunsthal and the Nederlands Architectuur Instituut (Netherlands Architecture Institute). You can also pay a visit to the recently renovated Euromast, which is near the hotel.

You can also reach many touristy attractions via the water. The water taxis on the quay of the Meuse are only a stone's throw away from the hotel, and the Spido round-trip boats are ready to transport you over the water.

Of course you can shop in Rotterdam to your heart's content. There are even special shopping routes: there is something for everyone. Every Sunday the shops are open in Rotterdam.

By Car:

From The Hague/ Utrecht:
- Take exit Centrum (number 25) on the motorway A16.
- You will now enter Rotterdam via the Maasboulevard.
- Follow the signs for Centrum/Erasmusbrug and then the signs for Spido.
- Once you have passed the entrance of the Erasmusbrug, turn left into the Van Vollenhovenstraat. The hotel is located at numbers 48-50.

Coming from Dordrecht/ Breda:
- Follow the A16 motorway in the direction of Rotterdam.
- Just before Rotterdam take exit number 24 for Feijenoord.
- Now follow the signs for the Erasmusbrug.
- Cross the Erasmusbrug and at the traffic lights you turn to the left, in the direction of Spido.
- At the next traffic lights turn left into the Van Vollenhovenstraat. The hotel is located at numbers 48-50.

By Public Transport:
- Take the train to Rotterdam central station.
- From Rotterdam train station take tram line 7 in towards Willemsplein.
- Get off at the stop called Vasteland and walk into the Van Vollenhovenstraat.
- After approximately 50 meters you will see the hotel.
